The Beis Medrash was established in 5765 (2005) in the heart of Yerushalayim by HaGaon Rav Chaim Mordechai Shapira shlit”a, as a mikdash me’at for the most select of talmidei chachamim – those whose shoulders have borne, and continue to bear, the ol haTorah and the ol harabbanus in Klal Yisroel.
The Beis Medrash constitutes a rare Torah framework, bringing together true chachmei haTorah – poskim, dayanim, roshei yeshiva and ramim – for deep iyun, sharp chidud, and ongoing yetziras Torah, all conducted with profound yiras Shamayim, ahavas haTorah, and re’usah d’liba without measure
At the head of the Beis Medrash stands its founder and Nasi, HaGaon HaRav Chaim Mordechai Shapira shlit”a of Yerushalayim, a prime talmid muvhak of Maranan v’Rabanan HaGeonim Rav Baruch Mordechai Ezrachi zt”l and Rav Moshe Shapira zt”l. The Beis Medrash was founded through their inspiration and kochos, and from its inception has been conducted as an exalted makom Torah, where the kavod haTorah and its lomdeiha stand at the pinnacle of values.
His derech is one of remarkable tznius. He does not assume positions of rabbanus or serarah, but rather sits as one of the lomdim, fully sharing in the amal haTorah of the chaburah. With noble anavah and endless dedication, he devotes his kochos wholly to the ruchniyus and gashmiyus welfare of the members of the Beis Medrash.
With regal nobility of spirit, he is truly “k’shor la’ol v’chamor l’massa” – bearing the burden of the tzibbur with silence, diligence, and love, placing the growth of the talmidei chachamim in both their learning and their personal needs as his central tafkid and life’s mission.
